Enterprises offered new tool to restart remote devices

Czech this out - HW's Ping Restarter

A Czech company has come out with a new device aimed at companies running webs servers concerned about connectivity.

Prague-based HW Group has launched what it calls a Ping restarter designed for checking that a connection to a remote device is alive and, if not, restarting it. Failures are detected using different methods for each channel. Devices supported include servers, switches and routers.

An HW spokeswoman said that IP WatchDog HWg-WR02a was aimed at industrial organisations for monitoring correct function of AP points, WEB servers, or some parts of LAN technology. In case of failure, it allows servers to be either reset or a back device come into play. The new device complements the company's previous product, WatchDog Lite, which pings remote devices and resets if necessary

Many data centres already use Telnet to remotely manage devices, via IP-controlled power bars but the spokeswoman said that the IP WatchDog was a different beast. "That is totally different situation. In that case some external operator makes the decision when to switch the power on or off. WatchDog makes this decision without any operator or external software."

The HW spokeswoman said that the company did not set the prices for the product as these were set by the company's distributors.

A smarter way to print for busy small business owners, combining speedy printing with scanning and copying, making it easier to produce high quality documents and images at a touch of a button.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8730

I've had a multifunction printer in the office going on 10 years now. It was a neat bit of kit back in the day -- print, copy, scan, fax -- when printing over WiFi felt a bit like magic. It’s seen better days though and an upgrade’s well overdue. This HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 looks like it ticks all the same boxes: print, copy, scan, and fax. (Really? Does anyone fax anything any more? I guess it's good to know the facility’s there, just in case.) Printing over WiFi is more-or- less standard these days.
