Despite some heavy competition from a trio of recent hardcore releases, The Sims 3 and its first expansion were able to end December as the top-selling PC game this month, giving the June-released game the distinction of becoming the best-selling game of the year as well. The two Sims titles beat out Modern Warfare 2, Dragon Age: Origins, and Left 4 Dead 2, which rounded out the top five.
The rest of the list includes a few more Sims games, the PC top-seller stalwart World of Warcraft, and, thankfully, Borderlands. Then there's a handful of WTF titles like Nancy Drew, Mumbo Jumbo Assortment, and IGT Slots: Texas Tea to make you realize that there are some weird gamers out there.
The full 1-20 NPD PC video game sales rankings for December 2009 are below. Any surprising omissions, in your opinion? Personally, I think Nancy Drew: The White Wolf at Icicle Creek should have made the list instead of Waverly Academy.
