Batman sequel escapes from Arkham

Arkham Asylum 2 details unveiled

The newly announced Batman: Arkham Asylum 2 will likely range beyond the Asylum walls according an interview with Rocksteady's Paul Denning published in a recent issue of PC Zone magazine.

"You could always expand [on Arkham Asylum] and there are games in the past that have gone down that route," said Denning when asked if the dev team would consider other canonical Gotham settings. "But I think you're right. Gotham itself is a fantastically realised fictional city and there are so many places that would probably be ideal for gameplay and great to explore."

Though the teaser trailer recently revealed at the VGA Awards may have encouraged fans of the first game to imagine the Dark Knight's next outing as a freewheeling adventure through a sandbox Gotham, Denning (a senior programmer on the new title) was quick to dispel those rumors.

"If Arkham Asylum had been that kind of game I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have been as good," said Denning. "I think sandbox games that do that well are so hard to realise; GTA is obviously a fantastic example of one that gets it right but there are so many that get it wrong and I think you have to be so careful when you take that route."
