Most special editions aren't all that special--they include goofy items that are destined to collect dust in gamers' closets and provide little in the way of cool content that properly accompany the games. Modern Warfare 2 night vision goggles, I'm looking at you.
2K Games is bucking that trend, as it has announced via the Cult of Rapture blog that a US$100 special edition BioShock 2 bundle will be available at launch (the bundle will be US$90 on the PC). For US$40 more than the normal price, you get three high-quality posters, a hardbound art book, a CD soundtrack of BioShock 2's orchestral score, and a vinyl record featuring the original game's orchestral score. All of the aforementioned items are included inside a box that also has the game itself, both with "special edition" boxart.
According to the Cult of Rapture, there will only be a single production run, meaning supplies will actually be limited, unlike the Halo 3 Master Chief helmet bundle, which cluttered store shelves for months after the game's release.
