New intellectual property at EA is set to take a hit...
A new article posted on Develop seems to indicate that losses and layoffs from the last financial quarter will cause EA to revert to its old publishing mindset of sustaining its most profitable franchises, and eschewing non-licenced new titles (like Mirror's Edge and Brutal Legend). In the article, EA CEO John Riccitello is quoted as saying the kinds of series that will continue to thrive under EA's banner in the future "are selling or have sold in their most recent edition 2 million units or more."
This, of course, includes the many sports titles and movie licenced-games published by EA, some of which may have more than one annual release, as Riccitello stated "Electronic Arts has a core slate of games label and sports franchises that we will iterate on a either annual or bi-annual basis."
Outside of the NFL and Rock Band licenses, EA has rarely released more than one game per franchise or license per year. Is it possible we could see more EA franchise titles getting multiple yearly releases?
