Apple's Snow Leopard regains top two Amazon sales spots

Windows 7's best showing is No. 31, for $US120 Home Premium Upgrade

Pre-orders for Apple's Snow Leopard regained the top positions on Amazon.com's bestseller list Monday after Apple announced that it would start selling the upgrade at the end of this week.

As of 3:30 p.m. EDT today, the $US29 Snow Leopard and the $US49 Snow Leopard Family Pack were ranked No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, on Amazon's software sales chart. The $US49 Family Pack provides licenses for five Macs.

Although Amazon has been taking pre-orders since early August, Apple's own e-store, as well as other online resellers, only kicked off theirs sales today.

Apple does not rank its software sales on its site, although it does for its Mac, iPod and iPhone lines.

Snow Leopard, or Mac OS X 10.6, had grabbed the top two spots on Amazon's bestseller list within days of the giant online retailer posting the product for pre-order.

Since then, however, both had slipped, with the $US29 single license often holding down the No. 3 position.

Windows 7, which is slated for an Oct. 22 release, had grabbed the lead spot on Amazon's software bestseller list when two editions were heavily discounted during a two-week sale earlier this summer.

Microsoft's new OS was absent from the chart today, however. Today, Windows 7's best showing was the $US119.99 Home Premium Upgrade, at No. 31.

Microsoft's highest-placed product was Office Home and Student 2007, at No. 3. Amazon is selling the $US149.95 application suite for just $US69.99.

Earlier today, Apple confirmed rumors that had been circulating for the last two weeks by announcing that Snow Leopard would launch Friday, Aug. 28.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8730

I've had a multifunction printer in the office going on 10 years now. It was a neat bit of kit back in the day -- print, copy, scan, fax -- when printing over WiFi felt a bit like magic. It’s seen better days though and an upgrade’s well overdue. This HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 looks like it ticks all the same boxes: print, copy, scan, and fax. (Really? Does anyone fax anything any more? I guess it's good to know the facility’s there, just in case.) Printing over WiFi is more-or- less standard these days.
