Telstra is the first mobile operator globally to launch LG's GM730f smartphone.

Telstra has launched six new Next G mobile phones, including a world-first — the LG GM730f — and a low-end phone targeted at social network users, the LG Xenon.

The GM730f is a smartphone running the Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system with LG's S-Class user interface overlay on top. Along with the LG Xenon, a low-end phone with a full QWERTY keyboard and shortcut buttons to social networking Web sites, the LG GM730f is exclusive to Telstra for the life of the device.

The new Telstra Next G range also includes an 8-megapixel camera phone, the LG Viewty Smart, HTC's Touch Pro 2 business smartphone and two Sony Ericsson phones — the 8-megapixel W995 Walkman and the W508 Walkman.

The Sony Ericsson W995 and W508 mobile phones use the TelstraOne Experience user interface, which aims to simplify access to applications and services on the Next G network.

"The new introductions to our Next G range give our customers more choice and access to exclusive handsets," said Glenice Maclellan of Telstra.

Pricing and availability of the new mobile phones is as follows:

LG GM730f: $80 plan over 24 months or $979 outright. Available 28 July in Sydney and Melbourne T[Life] stores, 11 August nationwide.
