Optus introduces new 'yes' mobile plans for consumers, small businesses

Unlimited SMS and MMS messages for 'yes' and 'yes' Business $59 caps

Optus today announced new 'yes' and 'yes' Business GSM mobile plans targeted at consumers and small businesses.

The new 'yes' $59 cap plan offers the same $680 monthly value as the 'yes' $49 cap, but also includes unlimited SMS and MMS messages. Users of the 'yes' $49 cap must pay 25c per SMS or MMS message (which is deducted from the monthly value). Both of the new plans are available on a 12 or 24 month contract.

The monthly value on the two caps is separated into $330 credit for "Optus2AnyOne" and $350 credit for "Optus2Optus". Optus will charge all calls made within Australia, regardless of carrier, to the "Optus2AnyOne" value before charging the "Optus2Optus" value. This means that if you call an Optus GSM mobile or fixed line before using up the primary $330 "Optus2AnyOne" value, it will still be charged to "Optus2AnyOne".

Any calls made to non-Optus number once the Optus2AnyOne credit has been used up are charged at normal call rates.

Users on the 'yes' $59 cap will also receive free five-minute calls to Optus mobiles on other 'yes' plans.

Optus also announced new 'yes' Business cap plans targeted at small businesses. Like the consumer plans, the $49 and $59 caps have $680 monthly value with the latter providing unlimited SMS and MMS.

The $79 cap provides $1250 monthly value with unlimited SMS and MMS. Small and medium businesses can also choose between the telco's Smart Fleet or Business Time value plans. Smart Fleet provides free national calls, SMS and MMS to other mobiles on the same account, while Business Time provides free 5-minute calls to three nominated Optus mobiles or fixed-line numbers.

Optus claimed the new caps were set to shake up the mobile market. “These new plans reflect the value we are committed to offering customers when choosing a mobile provider", said Anthony Hearne, Optus' acting marketing director for its consumer division. "These plans are great news, perfect options for people and businesses on a budget”, Hearne said.
