ISPs begin to offer unmetered access to ABC’s iView service

iPrimus is the latest ISP to offer its broadband subscribers free access to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s iView Internet service.

iPrimus is the second ISP to announce this week it is offering unmetered access to the ABC’s iView TV service, which is now available to all its broadband customers.

Along with access to iView, iPrimus also is offering other unmetered content to its customers, including the iPrimus Gaming Network (iPGN), Lingo (VoIP) and File Mirror (games, software patches, drivers and various other files).

“We’ve noticed an increase in customers viewing rich media, largely driven by video portals such as YouTube and as a result, we’ll be looking at some new and innovative content ideas in the new year to meet customer demand,” said iPrimus’ General Manager of Marketing & Products, Andrew Sims in a statement.

ABC iView is a Flash-based service that offers a wide range of ABC content online, including ABC CatchUp, which showcases popular shows from ABC1 and ABC2, ABC News, recent ABC documentaries and some arts shows. Typically programs remain available for viewing on the site for about a month.

Earlier this week Internode announced it too would be offering its broadband customers unmetered access to iView.

Internode said it can offer the service for nix now that it has resolved previous technical challenges that prevented it from providing “high performance, nationally available unmetered access to iView”.

The ABC launched iView in July and at the time announced iiNet as its launch partner.

If you can afford the price tag, it is well worth the money. It out performs any other laptop I have tried for gaming, and the transportable design and incredible display also make it ideal for work.
