Sony releases next-gen Blu-ray players

Sony announces two new Blu-ray players with advanced connectivity and interactivity.

Sony Australia today announced the release of two new Blu-ray disc players: the BDP-S350 and the BDP-S550. Both models will offer complete access to the advanced features of Blu-ray media, including Bonus View and BD-Live.

The BDP-S350 and BDP-S550 will be compatible with BD-Live, a newly developed Blu-ray feature that lets you access the Internet during a movie to download a variety of up-to-date content. This includes everything from exclusive special features to live events and gaming. This is achieved via an inbuilt Ethernet port, which also enables easy firmware updates.

Bonus View is another new Blu-ray feature supported by the BDP-S350 and BDP-S550. This provides 'picture-in-picture' capability with select Blu-ray titles — allowing you to view cast and crew commentaries while the movie plays, for example.

Andrew Smith, Sony Australia's product manager for home video, said: “The exciting new interactive features these models offer take the movie experience beyond what cinemas can offer.”

The BDP-S550 ships with a 1GB storage device that can be used for storing BD-Live downloads. Both models will feature 1080/60p and 24p True Cinema output, as well as 1080p 'up-scaling' for standard DVDs.

The two models also include the latest in audio technology, including 7.1 channel Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus decoding, dts-HD High Resolution Audio and Master Audio bit-stream output. The BDP-S550 also supports 7.1 channel analog audio and dts-HD Master Audio decoding.

The BDP-S350 will be available from October for a recommended retail price of $449. The BDP-S550 will be available in November with an RRP of $649.

The HP OfficeJet 250 Mobile Printer is a great device that fits perfectly into my fast paced and mobile lifestyle. My first impression of the printer itself was how incredibly compact and sleek the device was.

Wireless printing from my iPhone was also a handy feature, the whole experience was quick and seamless with no setup requirements - accessed through the default iOS printing menu options.

A smarter way to print for busy small business owners, combining speedy printing with scanning and copying, making it easier to produce high quality documents and images at a touch of a button.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8730

I've had a multifunction printer in the office going on 10 years now. It was a neat bit of kit back in the day -- print, copy, scan, fax -- when printing over WiFi felt a bit like magic. It’s seen better days though and an upgrade’s well overdue. This HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 looks like it ticks all the same boxes: print, copy, scan, and fax. (Really? Does anyone fax anything any more? I guess it's good to know the facility’s there, just in case.) Printing over WiFi is more-or- less standard these days.
