iiNet orchestrates streaming deal with WA symphony

ISP to offer select live streams of West Australian Symphony Orchestra’s 2009 season for free.

iiNet customers will soon be able to appreciate Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony over the Internet as it is played live at the Perth Concert Hall.

The ISP and the West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO) have signed an agreement to offer some of WASO’s best 2009 live performances through iiNet’s Freezone.

The Freezone is a selection of servers and sites where data accessed does not count towards user’s quota or download limits.

“This is a great platform to highlight West Australian talent to the rest of the country …We believe that the live streaming concert series will inspire new audiences to attend a WASO concert when visiting Perth,” said Mark White, iiNet chief operating officer.

Paul Daniel conducts Beethoven, Mahler’s First and Rhapsody in Blue are just a few of WASO’s 2009 performances that will be streamed online.

Some performances still to be determined will also be available “on demand”.

WASO says these initiatives, which include podcasts, aim to take the public behind the scenes and deeper into the music.

“We are excited by the potential of live streaming technology to bring the work of WASO to more Australians through iiNet,” says Keith Vening, WASO chief executive officer.

WASO’s conducting of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony will join an array of other programs iiNet customers can watch for free via iiNet’s Freezone such as English Premier League (EPL) games, NASA television, ABC’s latest TV programs through ABC iView as well as Pixar short films and iPod games.
