Report: Nvidia to release CPU at Computex

Nvidia is planning to announce a line of Arm-based CPUs at the Computex exhibition in Taipei next week.

Graphics chip vendor, Nvidia, will reportedly introduce a line of processors designed for small, handheld computers at the Computex exhibition in Taipei next week.

The Inquirer report sheds light on a product called Tegra that Nvidia plans to unveil next week. While the Tegra name has been known for some time, Nvidia has kept details of the product under wraps.

According to the report, Tegra will include two products, the Tegra APX 2500 and CSK 600/650, that are based on an Arm11 processor core and will compete in that space against Intel's Centrino Atom chip package, unveiled in April.

The Tegra products will offer the same graphics capabilities of Nvidia's current GeForce lineup, the report said.

The APX 2500 is reportedly designed for handheld computers, while the CSK chips will be used in larger devices. Devices based on the chip will run Windows CE instead of Windows XP, as Arm processor cores do not support the latter operating system.

Nvidia is also expected to unveil a low-cost computing product at Computex in conjunction with Via Technologies. Nvidia will make a chipset that supports Via's upcoming Isaiah processor and offer better graphics capabilities than have previously been available for Via's processor line.
