Mark Wahlberg offered lead role in Max Payne movie

According to Hollywood Reporter, Mark Wahlberg is in talks to star as "Max Payne" in Fox's movie adaptation of the 2001 third-person shooter.

The movie, directed by John Moore (Flight of the Phoenix), is scheduled to begin filming in 2008. Wahlberg is currently shooting Peter Jackson's "The Lovely Bones." Filming for Max Payne is scheduled to begin in 2008.

Max Payne, first released in 2001 for PC and a year later on PS2 and Xbox, centers on an NYPD detective who finds himself in the middle of a mob war while simultaneously trying to clear his name and avenge the death of his wife and child.
