NewSat Limited (ASX:NWT) signed an agreement with the Western Australian Government's Department of Resources, Industry and Enterprise to deliver the Kimberley Broadband Solutions Project (KBSP) in Perth today.

The Hon Francis Logan, Minister for Resources, Industry and Enterprise and NewSat CEO Adrian Ballintine signed the agreement following NewSat being awarded an open tender for $1.98 million.

Based on NewSat's business model for the project the company expects to generate revenue in excess of $9 million over five years from the KBSP.

"The project will deliver self-sustainable, affordable and accessible high speed broadband to more than 16 towns and six national parks and conservation reserve sites in the Kimberley region," said Minister Logan.

"The project will further enhance the delivery of key government agency services to the region and make a significant contribution to the State's strong economic prosperity and regional development," he said.

Mr Ballintine said, " NewSat will provide 16 wireless hotspots sites as well as three fixed satellite and portable mobile satellite communication systems to key locations in the Kimberleys.

"Remote communities will have substantially better access to distance education opportunities, on-line banking and e-business facilities.

"Initiated and managed by the Department of Industry and Resources, the project is also supported by the Department of Housing and Works, Kimberley Development Commission, Department of Environment and Conservation, Western Australian Police, Department of Local Government and Regional Development and the State Library of Western Australia."

Mr Ballintine said winning the open tender was a strong vote of confidence by both Federal and State government in NewSat's ability to lead the remote satellite communications for the Kimberleys.

"Central to this confidence are our world class teleport facilities and technical excellence which is being increasingly recognised by government and major corporations," Mr Ballintine said.
