Adaptec Market Share Leadership in Serial ATA and Serial Attached SCSI Markets Noted in Latest Leading Industry Analyst Report on Volume Shipments for 2005

Sydney, Australia – 21st November, 2006 - - Adaptec, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADPT), a global leader in storage solutions, today announced the Adaptec Serial ATA 1220SA and 1430SA HostRAID controllers that support Intel's latest PCIe interconnect and are designed to deliver cost-effective RAID data protection for desktops, workstations and entry-level servers. With these new controllers, Adaptec is the first company to offer multi-port PCIe.

Recent evaluation of Adaptec market share leadership in serial technology comes from Gartner's latest report on volume shipments for 2005 that noted Adaptec leading the Serial ATA (SATA) market with 38 percent market share and the Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) market with 79 percent.

"Adaptec has been able to achieve its leadership in serial technology by being the first to market with a broad set of offerings that address a multitude of business requirements. We have seen demand for the PCIe interconnect rising significantly over the last 12 months, and are pleased to demonstrate our further leadership with this announcement," said Tim Connolly, vice president of marketing for the Data Protection Solutions Group at Adaptec. "Unique to Adaptec, HostRAID is integrated, software based RAID code that offers a more cost-effective, low profile form factor with optimised performance for entry-level systems. Customers using these new SATA HostRAID controllers for PCIe can take advantage of improved data throughput and higher bandwidth to maximise system performance for applications such as audio/video streaming and gaming."

About the Adaptec Serial ATA 1430 and 1220

With advanced mirroring capabilities, the Adaptec Serial ATA 1220SA is ideal for small offices/home offices that need to protect the business critical data being stored on desktops such as personal finance information or sales records. The Adaptec Serial ATA 1430SA is a cost-effective solution for companies who want to utilise RAID capabilities such as data striping across multiple drives instead of a single drive to increase the performance and availability of workstations or entry-level servers that are running high-bandwidth applications. Both controllers can be used as a boot device to provide back-up for an operating system running on a print, file or storage server.

Adaptec SATA 1220SA and 1430SA Features:

• Adaptec HostRAID - integrated RAID software technology that cost-effectively provides RAID levels 0, 1 and 10 for protection against data loss or corruption;

• Low-profile form factor enabling companies to utilise these controllers in entry-level servers, workstations and desktops;

• Utilises the Adaptec Storage Manager, a next-generation storage management software that runs on all Adaptec controllers for optimising RAID data volumes, disk utilisation, provisioning, diagnostics and storage expansion;

• PCIe x1 or x4 host interface;

• 48 -bit LGA support for large capacity SATA drives exceeding 137 GB for expanded storage capabilities;

• Support for removable media including SATA tape drives that allow companies to back-up data for long term storage

• Extended operating system support through an embedded driver for Microsoft Vista

Pricing and Availability

The new Adaptec Serial ATA 1220SA and 1430SA are currently shipping and available through distribution partners and resellers. Pricing is $A104 including GST for the 1220SA and $A186 including GST for the 1430SA.
