Telecommunication, Network & ISPs will Play an Increasing Role in the Australian Security Market, Predicts IDC

 • 26 July, 2006 10:31

NORTH SYDNEY, 26th July 2006 - IDC expects to see Telecommunication, Network Providers and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) playing an increasing role in the Australian security market. Vendors such as Telstra/KAZ, Optus/Alphawest and Commander/Volante have made strong moves into the security services market in recent times. Network equipment providers such as Cisco and Lucent are also increasing their stake in security.

IDC's latest study, "Australia Security Services Competitive Analysis, 2006" (Doc # AU321311N), discusses the trend of network equipment providers and telecommunication providers increasing their focus on security services in the Australian market.

"Australian organisations are facing increasingly sophisticated security risk and compliance requirements to monitor not only external threats and attacks coming into the network, but also information leaving the organisation. The focus is shifting from simply putting security applications on the network to ensure IT security through the network itself. Security services firms, as a result, need extensive skills from the network all the way up to the application layer to deliver the appropriate security services to their customers," says Patrik Bihammar, market analyst, Security Solutions, IDC Australia.

As the Maserati or BMW of laptops, it would fit perfectly in the hands of a professional needing firepower under the hood, sophistication and class on the surface, and gaming prowess (sports mode if you will) in between.
