Finally, DVD burning for downloadable movies

On Monday, online movie download service Movielink announced that it had licensed technology from Sonic Solutions, which would enable downloadable movies to be burned to DVDs for playback in standard players. But it might take about six months or so for the company to implement this. Currently Movielink only lets you buy or rent movies for use on your PC. (http://www.movielink.com/)

Enter the competition. On Wednesday, Movielink rival CinemaNow unveiled an actual download-to-burn service that lets you download flicks then transfer them to DVD, thereby cutting them loose from your computer. Burned DVDs will include menus and bonus features--anything that's on the original DVD. Prices start at US$8.99 (approx. AU$12) and the service commences with 100 older titles, such as "About a Boy," "Scent of a Woman," and "Cheech and Chong's Next Movie." Well, it's a start. (http://www.cinemanow.com/)
