Mitel Unveils New Series of IP Phones and Accessories

 • 08 June, 2006 10:19

Mitel, the trusted innovator of IP communication solutions for the enterprise, unveiled today its new generation of IP phones and accessories. The new range of SIP compatible IP phone handsets are specifically designed to provide greater interoperability and desktop ease-of-use. 802.11 Wireless LAN and Gigabit Ethernet accessories now allow Mitel 5200 and 5300 series IP phones to be easily upgraded to support new wireless and high speed networking communications.

Continuing its innovation and leadership at the desktop, Mitel has extended its award-winning desktop portfolio to include the Mitel 5330 and 5340 IP Phones, the Mitel Wireless LAN Stand (WLAN) and the Mitel Gigabit Ethernet Stand (GigE).

Gwilym Funnell, Mitel Australia Managing Director commented, “Mitel’s 5330 and 5340 IP Phones are extremely easy to use, and give you maximum flexibility when you design your phone system. With our easy to use HTML toolkit, your phone can be setup to access any information you like, directly on the screen of your phone handset. You don’t even need a network cable anymore.”

Designed with large graphic displays and wideband audio, Mitel’s new 5330 and 5340 IP phones come with either 24 or 48 customisable soft keys. Both IP phones come equipped with wideband audio handsets (7 kHz) making them acoustically superior to many IP phones available today.

The new Mitel phones are also designed to conserve power, operating at significantly reduced power consumption compared to many competitors’ phones. Industry standard SIP protocols and Mitel’s proprietary MiNet protocol are also supported, as well as teleworker, automatic call distribution (ACD) and Hot Desking.

Both the Mitel 5330 and 5440 IP Phones support Mitel's new GigE and WLAN stands, as well as conference units and the Line Interface Module (LIM) that provides E-911 emergency dialing and survivability using the PSTN.

Also available, the Mitel HTML Toolkit for the 5330 and 5340 IP Phones provides an easy-to-use way to create graphical phone applications. The Mitel HTML Toolkit allows businesses of any size to integrate key business processes with their phone handsets, using a standard web-authoring tool such as Microsoft Office FrontPage® 2003 and Macromedia Dreamweaver® 8. Templates have been designed to simplify installations for vertical market sectors such as education, retail, finance and hospitality.

Intelligent Evolution - Mitel Maintains Investment Protection
Mitel’s Gigabit Ethernet Stand is a cost-effective solution that is designed specifically to meet the needs of customers with high bandwidth requirements. By building the Gigabit Ethernet interface into the phone stand, users can Gigabit Ethernet enable any existing Mitel 5200 or 5300 series IP phone, rather than junk and replace.

This allows enterprises to migrate their installed base of phone handsets over time, protect their investment, and offer their users choice and flexibility when selecting an IP phone.

Mitel’s Wireless Phone Stand works with many of Mitel’s wired phones, enhancing them with 802.11 wireless connectivity. The WLAN Stand operates in two modes: client and access point. The client mode enables the phone to operate in a standard WLAN environment while the access point mode provides a wireless environment for multiple Mitel IP phones and wireless devices. The stand is ideal for customers with wiring constraints, wireless greenfield sites, temporary locations, and teleworkers with a wireless LAN at home.

The Mitel 5330 and 5340 IP Phones, and Mitel Wireless Phone Stand will be available in July 2006.

The Mitel Gigabit Ethernet Stand is available immediately.

Mitel products are distributed in Australia by Telstra Business Systems and Uptime Distribution, and are sold by authorised Mitel Solution Providers.
