StorageCraft Launches in Australia with Release of Affordable Disk-to-Disk Backup with Integrated Disaster Recovery and Database Protection

Using Live, Real Time Imaging, StorageCraft Delivers Enterprise Protection at Small Business Pricing

Sydney, Australia, May 3, 2006 — StorageCraft Technology Corporation, a provider of innovative security, disaster recovery and data protection solutions for servers and PCs, today announced its opening in Australia and the release of a disk-based point-in-time backup and disaster recovery software, ShadowProtect Server Edition™ and ShadowProtect Desktop Edition™.

ShadowProtect gives users from the enterprise to the smallest business a way to generate backups of Windows servers, PCs and laptops by creating an ExactState™ point-in-time backup image of a complete system or a specific data volume, without any interruption to business. ShadowProtect also allows for fast, bare-metal recovery of Windows systems.

The five key problems ShadowProtect solves are:

1. Eliminating backup windows

2. Protecting data every 15 minutes throughout the day

3. User-initiated file restores

4. Integrated database protection for Exchange & SQL

5. Out of the box 15-minute disaster recovery of a server or desktop

StorageCraft also announced the opening of a local APAC office under the guidance of well-known storage identity Greg Wyman. “Our goal in Australia, New Zealand and Asia is to provide Enterprise Class backup, recovery and disaster solutions at price points that are highly attractive for small business. The target market for us are companies who are either disappointed with their current backup software vendors or companies looking to reduce the complexity and cost of providing backup, recovery and disaster recovery to their organisations. With the high rate of failure of traditional backups, a new approach is needed.”

By using Microsoft’s advanced backup framework, VSS (Volume Shadow Copy Services), ShadowProtect creates a more reliable full or incremental backup of an entire system, including data and applications such as Exchange and SQL Server. With ShadowProtect incremental backups, only the changed sectors are imaged, so more point-in-time backups can be taken at regular intervals during the business day – even as frequently as every 15 minutes – providing a previously unattainable level of data protection for users.

StorageCraft claims with ShadowProtect, a typical Windows server can be rebuilt “out-of-box” in less than 15 minutes without expensive add-ons, agents or options at less than A$795 per server.

ShadowProtect allows administrators to schedule full or incremental point-in-time backups, while the system is still online. These images are compressed and encrypted ensuring they are securely stored until needed, in the event of an accident or disaster.

Users can mount the point-in-time backups as a separate drive or mount point so it is easy to restore individual files or folders, by simply dragging and dropping them to the desired location. With ShadowProtect, it’s also possible to update an existing point-in-time backup. This means a user can mount a backup image before restoring it, run a virus scan and fix the backup, should a virus be detected.

“Our entire ShadowProtect line of software provides IT professionals and non technical users a new value point for this quality of backup and disaster recovery technology,” said Greg Wyman. “ShadowProtect includes next-generation technology, supported by StorageCraft’s years of experience in creating imaging and snapshot technology which is used on millions of installations worldwide. ShadowProtect Server Edition customers will get a total, integrated backup solution with enhanced incremental backup features and disaster recovery, well below the price of competitors”

ShadowProtect Desktop Edition

StorageCraft is also releasing ShadowProtect Desktop Edition, which allows administrators and authorised users to create an exact backup of a laptop or desktop while the PC is still running. Users can keep on working while ShadowProtect Desktop Edition creates a point-in-time backup of the complete system – including OS, applications and personal files. These backups can be scheduled and saved to any disk device, including network drives.

This allows users to restore their systems to an exact point in time or perform fast bare metal recovery. In the event of a disaster, ShadowProtect Desktop Edition also allows remote recovery of the PC.

“ShadowProtect enables users to have an easy-to-use, reliable and robust, full feature backup and disaster recovery solution that provides a high level of protection for both servers and desktops,” said Greg Wyman. “Many people know they need to back up the data on servers, but there is also a lot of valuable information stored entirely on laptops and desktops which must be protected.”

Technicians License – unlimited server, desktop & laptop Disaster Recovery for only $1495 per technician, per year.

StorageCraft is also launching in Australia their ShadowProtect IT EDITION, which is a technician license (which provides the ability to image an unlimited number of servers, desktops and laptops by a technician) that does not require installation on the target system, and is able to create an ExactState image for disaster recovery and change management purposes. “We have seen a surge in interest amongst customers who have lots of servers, but do not have the budget for traditional disaster recovery products, using ShadowProtect IT Edition, customers can buy one license, or a couple of licenses for their technical team and be able to have rapid system restore of a typical system volume in under 15 minutes,” commented Wyman.
