NEC Australia licenses EMI, Warner, Shock and Vicious content for new mobile music service

 • 02 March, 2006 15:47

NEC has announced the release of “music-on-the-move”, an innovative new mobile content service for Telstra i-mode users.

To bring the site to life, licensing agreements have been secured with major record labels, EMI and Warner, as well as local Australian independent labels, Shock Records and Vicious, providing consumers with a diverse array of mobile content.

Music of all genres from past and present is available for purchase and download through the “music on the move” i-mode site, giving Australian mobile phone users instant access to their favourite tracks.

The “music-on-the-move” site initially delivers realtones (snippets of high quality digital music) and music industry news to users. This will be followed by the launch of full length music downloads and music videos later in 2006. All content when downloaded can be set as the mobile handset’s ringtone, allowing users to personalise their phone with much loved tracks.

The site also boasts a comprehensive search engine, allowing users to find the music they want easily and quickly. NEC Corporation’s BIGLOBE’s vast experience and expertise in delivering mobile content solutions globally has been leveraged to deliver the new content site.

Davide Iacovitti, NEC Australia’s Mobile Content Manager comments that “the new content service has initially launched on the Telstra i-mode platform. Our aim is to work with other mobile delivery platforms around the globe and develop new applications and content solutions that mobile consumers are craving.”

EMI boasts an impressive artist line-up including Coldplay, Gorillaz and Missy Higgins. Gareth Isaac, Head of Strategy and Business Development at EMI Australia, comments that “EMI is delighted to be involved with NEC’s “music-on-the-move” service. Music fans that use the Telstra i-mode platform can now enjoy EMI’s great range of artists on their mobile phones”.

Warner Music’s star signings include Madonna, Rob Thomas, The Veronicas and James Blunt.

The independent labels provide depth and diversity to the available range of content. Shock Records, Australia’s largest independent record label, provides artists such as Ricki-Lee, The Freestylers, Lil Jon, Ying Yang Twins, Tiga, Armand Van Helden, Spazzys, Bodyjar, Jose Gonzalez and more. Vicious offers independent dance releases from artists such as Dirty South, mr Timothy, Andy J, Cabin Crew, Rogue Traders and Madison Avenue.

Exclusive flash content and wallpapers sourced by NEC Australia and made available on the “music-on-the-move” site forms another unique feature.

The new service adds to NEC Australia’s already successful mobile content portfolio for Telstra i-mode. This follows NEC’s continued growth in the mobile space in Australia, from the NEC enabled i-mode platform and NEC content solutions to the comprehensive NEC mobile handset line-up.

NEC Australia launched “DJ Remix n Hits” in February 2005. Attracting an impressive customer base, “DJ Remix n Hits” is made up of three ringtone and personalisation sites across the English, Chinese and Greek language portfolios of i-mode.
