IDC Launches New Australian Benchmarking Service

 • 27 February, 2006 11:57

NORTH SYDNEY, 27th February 2006 - IDC Australia has launched a new service offering focused on market price benchmarking of managed services and solutions.

"With more than $2bn of outsourcing contracts up for renewal in 2006, benchmarking is going to be a key tool in assessing approaches, prioritisation and the pricing of multiple offerings and responses," said Jens Butler, IDC Associate Director, Outsourcing and Benchmarking.

Through this new programme, IDC now offers the capability to measure market pricing related to the services and support side of an outsourcing contract and across the overall outsourcing contract lifecycle, from inception (RFI/Tendering) through to renegotiation and market price trending.

"In the past, a lot of client concerns with benchmarking revolved around the lack of clarity and transparency of the process. Through the unique IDC ITIL-based approach, greater understanding of how an offer is derived and the key components (internal and external) that drive the pricing are considered and how they align with client business requirements," commented Mr Butler.

He also added "Having talked to IT&T vendors and also IT Executives, it became apparent an approach that enables client-specific and customisable representation of each client's unique and specific needs, was required."

IDC's transparent and collaborative approach aims to understand each client's unique requirements, and thus customise and align the analysis to these client-specific needs - no more cookie-cutter benchmarking solutions.

IDC is in a unique position to access an unparalleled set of credible market information that is not just technology and business-focused, but is also based on both vendor and end-user/buyer research. For 10 years the local Australian IDC team have conducted market analysis and services research, end-user surveying, market tracking and forecasting along with outsourcing contracts analysis.

Through analysis of market specific offerings for a number of clients, IDC has been able to facilitate reduction in response turnaround, gain closer alignment with buyer needs, increase satisfaction ratings, increase retention rates and free up client resources to work on other projects.

"To gain full value from benchmarking, clients need to be able to understand beyond the numbers and feel comfortable that the benchmarker is aware of the interdependencies, client-specific drivers, and can provide flexibility, customisation and a consultative approach to clarify the context as well as the content," said Mr Butler.
