Project Phono Box MkII

 • 23 January, 2006 15:07

European Phono Box joins the desktop revolution

Melbourne, VIC - December 2005 - Europe’s favourite phono preamplifier, the Pro-Ject Phono Box has recently undergone a make-over to be more in keeping with what is now more frequently its ultimate destination, the desk space next to the computer.

Originally created for the hi fi enthusiast/record collector, the Phono Box has gone on to be a runaway bestseller with the IT music enthusiast/vinyl archivist. Being a stand-alone Phono Preamplifier, the diminutive Phono Box makes it possible to plug a turntable into any line input on an hi fi amplifier. Happily, it also does the same for input into a computer and that’s where many Phono Boxes end up these days, with more and more people keen to create digital music files and loops from a vinyl source.

The performance characteristics of the Phono Box remain just as outstanding as ever. Amplification and RIAA equalisation is provided for both MM and MC cartridges. Optimal channel separation is provided through dual-mono circuitry, and the unit continues to win critical acclaim for its musical fidelity.

The key difference with the Phono Box MKII is the presentation. In its original guise, hiding behind the hi fi meant it was hardly ever on show. These days the modern computer workstation demands a bit more style and Pro-Ject have responded accordingly. Measuring 105mm (W) x 120mm (D) x 38mm (H), and sporting its new, brushed aluminium facia with rounded corners, the new look Phono Box can happily sit alongside the latest iMac or Designer PC without looking dowdy. In its new incarnation the Phono Box will look somewhat different in the showroom as well. It now comes in a well-designed carton to be proudly displayed beside all those ipod and computer accessories.

This is a product for modern times. Everyone loves to talk about convergence, and the Pro-Ject Phono Box II is the device that connects music on vinyl to the digital age.

Pro-Ject products are available nationally.

As the Maserati or BMW of laptops, it would fit perfectly in the hands of a professional needing firepower under the hood, sophistication and class on the surface, and gaming prowess (sports mode if you will) in between.
