NETGEAR shows how easy it is to set up a connected home at the HIA Sydney Home Show

 • 10 May, 2007 11:19

NETGEAR (Nasdaq: NTGR) will exhibit its latest range of wireless networking products, Skype handsets and digital home devices at the HIA Sydney Home Show, starting today.

NETGEAR will exhibit a working digital home to demonstrate how easy it is to set-up in their own home.

“NETGEAR will show its latest range of easy to use wireless devices, digital home products and Skype handsets at the Home Show for those people who consider technology part of their day-to-day living,” said NETGEAR’s marketing manager, Kimberley Odewahn.

Included in the digital home display (Sydney Convention Centre, halls 2-5, the ‘Gadget Zone’) will be the EVA8000 Digital Entertainer HD which teaches a high definition television new tricks. The EVA8000 enables people to use their high-definition (HD) TV to its fullest potential and stream HD movie and television content from the Internet and play digital photos and music stored on a PC. EVA8000 also provides a fast connection between the home computer and television so users can watch YouTube, listen to Internet radio stations, or turn a PC into a high definition personal video recorder. An easy to use on-screen menu and powerful search features simplifies use.

NETGEAR, the leader in the home wireless market, according to IDC research, will also incorporate the WNR834B RangeMax Next Wireless Router into the display. The WNR834B and WN511B RangeMax Next Notebook Adapter comply with the draft-802.11n wireless standard and offer 15 times faster and 10 times more wireless coverage than standard 802.11g products.

Other products in the draft-802.11n RangeMax Next Wireless family that are now available for purchase include the WNR854T RangeMax Next Wireless-N Gigabit Edition Router which supports the high-definition connected home, small business and home office. Four Gigabit ports deliver maximum speed to users and when paired with the WN121T RangeMax Next Wireless-N USB 2.0 Adapter, the possibilities of a home wireless network are extended.

The WN802T RangeMax Next Gigabit Wireless Access Point, also now available, establishes a super-fast home or small business network with four Gigabit ports. The WN802T creates and maintains a stable connection and enough bandwidth to surf the Internet, download emails, use VoIP, share files between computers and stream high-definition videos -- simultaneously. No-fuss WiFi Security makes setting up a secure network easy.

The SC101 Storage Central, which provides fail-safe, shareable disk storage, can be accessed from a network or kept private, will also be incorporated into the digital home display. The SC101 makes it easy to store, share and back-up music, photos, videos and data files.

The SC101T Storage Central Turbo, which will also be available shortly, enables people to access their files, music, pictures and videos at Gigabit speeds -- even the largest HD movie can be transferred to a computer in seconds. Storage capacity can be doubled or even tripled by plugging in two SATA drives from 80 Gigabyte to 2 Terabytes in size, from any other provider.

Visitors to the digital home display will also be able to view the SPH101 Skype WiFi Phone which enables users to make unlimited free domestic and international calls to other Skype users over a wireless network.

Further NETGEAR Skype products which will shortly ship into Australia include the SPH200D Dual-Mode Cordless Phone with Skype. The SPH200D also enables people to make and receive phone calls using the landline. The phone’s base station is simply plugged into the Internet connection and the ordinary phone jack, and users can then see who is online with Skype and manage their contact list. The SPH200D is equipped with a built-in speakerphone and advanced DECT digital cordless technology, offering crystal clear voice quality with long range so users can roam around the home. The handy intercom feature means handsets can be used to communicate with each other throughout the home. Add up to a further four handsets by purchasing individual SPH150D Accessory Cordless Handsets with Skype.

Other technologies which support the set-up of a digital home include the HDXB101 Powerline HD 200Mbps Ethernet Adapter Kit which utilises electrical wiring to extend the reach of a home network
-- ensuring consumers get the most out of their network, in every corner of the home. The compact HDXB101 (which includes two HDX101 Powerline HD 200Mbps Ethernet Adapters) broadcasts a fast and stable network connection into corners Ethernet cabling will not reach -- connecting home computers, print servers, network attached storage devices and digital lifestyle products. Encrypted security protects the network from hackers and further devices can be added to the network through the addition of individual HDX101 Powerline HD 200Mbps Ethernet Adapters.
