The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) released a ten page document to attendees of E3 today, about the gaming demographic.
The stats range from gamer ages and gender breakdown, to genre specifics and top selling games. Some of the more interesting findings are listed below:
It revealed that the average game player age is 33. Surprisingly, it also found that 24.2% of gamers are over 50.
In terms of gender 38% of gamers are female, and 62% are male.
Women aged 18 or older represent a significantly greater portion of the game-playing population (31 percent) than boys aged 17 or younger (20 percent).
The average number of years that adult gamers have been playing computer or video gamers for is thirteen (i.e. - since 1993.)
55% of parents believe games are a positive part of their children's lives.
51% of frequent gamers play games online, up from 19% in 2000. Of these, 53% are male and 47% are female.
