A wide-aspect screen and very good performance are highlights of Dell's 1.9kg Inspiron 700m laptop. The screen is small, measuring just 12.1" diagonally, but its wide-aspect ratio and dense native resolution of 1280 by 800 pixels let you see more of ...
A swivelling Webcam and an all-white carbon-fibre case highlight the ASUS W5A, an ultraportable laptop weighing just 1.8 kilograms (not including its power adapter). Vanilla-hued laptops are not my favourite, because of the smudge factor if nothing e...
Here is another portable option for the mobile professional or student requiring the latest performance without the usual weight.
The Acer TravelMate 3000 comes with two batteries, is small enough that you can pick it up with one hand and comes at a reasonable price. On the other hand, it lacks a built-in optical drive and the keyboard is uncomfortable.
The HP Deskjet 9650 has a wide carriage that can handle paper 33 centimetres across and up to 10 centimetres long--and its paper-feeding smarts don't stop there.
The HP Business Inkjet 1200d is designed for small offices on a tight budget. It's cheaper than a colour laser, but it has businesslike styling, plus more paper-handling options--and a larger footprint--than most inkjets.
The brushed silver finish of this drive looks elegant, and matches the colour schemes and styling of a lot of the small form factor enclosures in Shuttle's range. It is interesting too that Shuttle has chosen to build this drive with a 19cm depth. Sh...
The Canon PIXMA iP4000 would be at home in any small office where people need to print high-quality photos as well as text documents. It does a good job on glossy, borderless photo prints, and it has a few paper handling features that typical photo p...
If your criterion for choosing a printer is spending the least amount of money possible to get passable print quality, then the Lexmark Z615 is a reasonable choice. But unless your printing needs are very modest we recommend you invest a little more ...
Even though this drive technically supports 48X CD burning, Sony throttles it to 40X straight out of the box, citing reliability and safety concerns when the disc spins at very high speeds. Having experienced high-speed disc-shattering firsthand in t...
Reliability is a key concern when creating discs, and the faster transfer rates get, the more prone to errors disc creation becomes. Because of this, BenQ has implemented technologies that aim to make every single burn as reliable as possible, especi...
The HP Deskjet 5740 is a simple, reliable inkjet printer. Though not particularly eye-catching, it produces nice-looking prints.
This silent runner from ASUS has one of the fastest speed ratings for double layer burning: 6X. This means it should be capable of burning up to 8GB of data in about--or even under--20min. However, in our tests we found that the drive could not handl...
With the Everio GZ-MC200 camcorder, JVC takes an interesting approach to the problem of storing large amounts of high-quality video on digital media. Where some camcorders, such as Sony's DCRDVD201E, have renounced DV tape in favour of 8cm DVD discs,...
The JVC GZ-MC500 looks like a spy camera, with matte black steel construction, an integrated flash and a rotating grip, allowing the camera section to move 45 degrees up and 45 degrees down. It fits snugly into the hand, with limited controls laid ou...

First impression on unpacking the Q702 test unit was the solid feel and clean, minimalist styling.
For work use, Microsoft Word and Excel programs pre-installed on the device are adequate for preparing short documents.
The Fujitsu LifeBook UH574 allowed for great mobility without being obnoxiously heavy or clunky. Its twelve hours of battery life did not disappoint.
The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.
My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
