Here's a look at what's available and what's in the works

The Dick Tracy era is (almost) here. Research firm Canalys estimates 5 million smartwatches will ship in 2014, compared to 500,000 in 2013. Sony's already in the game, along with a handful of scrappy startups—many of which got their funding on Kickstarter. And everyone's waiting to see what's up the respective sleeves of Apple, Microsoft, Samsung and Google.

In the meantime, here's a look at five smartwatches that are available now, five coming soon and four rumored to hit the market someday.

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
