One of the top memes of 2009, Crasher Squirrel originated as a tourist's photo taken in Alberta's Banff National Park. When Melissa Brandts set up her camera to take a picturesque lakefront shot of her and her husband Jackson, a curious ground squirrel popped up to upstage them. Within days after National Geographic posted the pic online (the couple had submitted it as a contest entry), Crasher Squirrel went viral, inspiring armchair Photoshoppers worldwide to insert the camera-friendly rodent into just about every photo op imaginable.
