MSN Search (1998)
Microsoft launched its first big attempt to conquer the world of Web search, MSN Search, in 1998. It remained popular over time largely by virtue of its inclusion on the default page of Internet Explorer--which also happened to be the default browser of Windows, the most popular OS in the world.
MSN Search became "Windows [[xref:http://www.pcworld.com/article/127109/microsofts_new_search_engine_exits_beta_status.html |Live Search|Live Search]]" in 2006, "Live Search" in 2007, then "[[xref:http://www.pcworld.com/article/165651/its_official_bing_is_now_microsofts_search_engine.html|Bing|Bing]]" in 2009.
