Best deals of the week: 22 January

We round up the best tech deals of week, with plenty of back-to-school bargains!

ASUS UL50VT notebook

Price: $1299 (Save: $199)

ASUS is offering its UL50VT notebook for $1299 with a free upgrade to a three-year global warranty. ASUS says the warranty is worth $199, and it's a back-to-school special that's only available if you have a student ID. We think it's a sweet deal for a laptop that will be clocking up a lot of kilometres between the home and campus. The laptop itself is sensational; you get an Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 CPU, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, a 15.6in screen and a 500GB hard drive. It even comes with a 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 210M graphics adapter. It looks very stylish and has plenty of useful ports, including HDMI. While we haven't reviewed this particular model, check out some of the other ASUS notebooks we've seen recently (select ASUS from the 'brand' drop-down list).

LIFEBOOK UH574

The Fujitsu LifeBook UH574 allowed for great mobility without being obnoxiously heavy or clunky. Its twelve hours of battery life did not disappoint.

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.

STYLISTIC Q702

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
