These days a smartphone is a must-have for many students, whether they go high school, college, TAFE or university. We've rounded up some of the best phones for students, from basic budget offerings like the Android-powered Huawei IDEOS U8150 to the waterproof Motorola Defy, and the ever-popular Apple iPhone 4.

The Samsung Galaxy 5 is the cheapest Android smartphone currently available in Australia. The reasonably stylish Galaxy 5 has most of the capabilities of more expensive devices, though its low res display and mediocre camera aren't impressive. At this price, we have few complaints though.
