Wait time for print to start

Wasted time! So much of my day is wasted waiting for this printer to run through some sort of process that goes on and on and on for as long as 10 minutes sometimes before it even begins to print! It is so frustrating and annoying! All the while I'm waiting on my document to be printed! I don't have the time in my busy schedule to wait 10 minutes for my printer to print a one page document. Horrible!!! This printer is going to the dumpster!

its same look and build as 630

    Is it wifi or not

You have just confused me and everyone who read this review and the spec.
Wif is the important feature and you, talk about it in detail.
but in the spec. You put Wifi is not supported on the MP640.....

I only give it 5 out of 5, just incase you did make the printing error in the Canons Specs..

    Takes forever to do anything

Concur with Lena and Deb, for a Canon product compared to the old MP600 which was ever so faithful and died after 8 years, this one is a piece of crap, looks like it won't last the same distance !!!!

Will not perform any function if any of the ink tanks are out

I don't know why this printer has such high reviews on all the supposedly reputable websites. 1) as mentioned above, it takes it's sweet time loading as if it were spinning yarn in there 2) if one ink tank goes empty, the unit becomes dysfunctional. In other words, you can't even scan a document to your computer if one tank goes empty. You can't even print with just having a black ink tank, must have all ink tanks in there and full. 3) This is the worst thing of all; it keeps randomly popping up with an error for "Inner Cover Open" when it is NOT! It will do this in the middle of a print job. So that means it wastes ink because it cuts off in the middle of a page. These are major issues which should have been ironed out before even making it to stores. Canon printer = never again!

    Everything else

This printer does so much squeaking and churning before it even spits out a piece of paper. Sometimes it takes several minutes, sometimes it doesn't print at all. I really like my old cannon Multipass F80. It printed well and was fool proof. This is a piece of junk if you ask me. I feel let down by Cannon. This machine sounds like it needs an oil can taken to it all the time.

Eats ink, continually blocks print head on genuine and non genuine tanks, noisy and slow

A terible printer that is not cost efective. It died in a little over 18 months and printed very little.

  • Pros
    cd printing
  • Cons
slow to start heavy on ink

I wanted to know if I could print directly from the scanner. I can't find any straight answer But there are only 3 options in scanning on the "magic wheel"! To pc, to sd card to flash drive! You would think a direct printing just like a photocopier would be in there! 'won't further my thoughts on this as they're not flattering!
Yes a lot more ink thirsty than my ip4000 - Slow to start from cold - can make frightening noise when shut down?
Otherwise doing its job reasonably well
I wish Laser printers with cd printing would be a little cheaper as I like printing holiday diary with photos and like putting my movies on CD with art work printing and would like laser durability (special thoughts for wet contact here)
