Got this via180 for Xmas and has given me no trouble at all. I was using a similar Tomtom in Australia last year while on holiday and the interface is the same so no trouble with using it for the first time. I can only assume that some of the negative comments are one offs, possibly due to software changes since it's release. Everything about the via180 works really well. The bluetooth works well, but not with all phones, so may need to check compatability if bluetooth is key to buying one. The touch screen is fine and doesn't require a heavy hand, and no issues with downloads and updates. And as a bonus by redemption I get 3 years free map updates. Brilliant!! As for documentation, you can download from the TomTom website. I would highly reccommend this unit to anyone.

This is my first GPS and so far its great, the only issue i have with it is the bluetooth connection it worked a treat once and thats been it since the unit finds the phone but the phone cant find the unit (not sure if its the phone or the unit) apart from that it does what its good at getting you to your destination

Unreliable stopped working after half a journey ,The screen is hard to push and very hard to type on.
The voice commands are just so frustrating and you give up.
The map gets muddled and the clamp is hard to use.
Cant make a voice command phone call as it is more frustrating than calling a telco.
If u ask for call home is says did u mean something else and you just give up.
Took it back for a Garmin ,no complaints with it after 2 weeks.

- ProsGood value. Charging plug. Ease of use.
- ConsIssues with software.
The Via 180 is the first GPS I've owned, although I've borrowed many (mainly Navman). Everything is really good, easy to configure, bluetooth works great. The cigarette lighter/USB charger is great because I can charge my phone from it. The only problem I've had is when making your own menu it says "unable to load page" it only happens sometimes but it's a real letdown on an otherwise great GPS. would still recommend it over any Navman I've used.

- ProsEasy to use, good value for money
- Conspressure pad, instructions
I have just replaced my GO720 (damaged) with a VIA180 and am very impressed at the ease of use. However I can understand the negative comments from those who are unfamiliar with the operation of TOM TOM's. I found it very easy too configure and to operate because of my previous experience, but the pressure sensitive screen requires a heavy hand and could be improved. The other annoyance is the change of USB cable from standard to mini..one has to question why?, and of course poor/lack of documentation does not help. Overall a positive experience.

How much of this is a problem with the device and how much of it is a satellite problem?

I recently purchase a Via 180 (from Dick Smith), the battery seem to go down very quickly when the GPS is off. When I on the GPS again, I need to wait about half an hour before it’s able to pick up the GPS signal. The first Via 180 I got did not pick up the GPS signal at all and I had to exchange it. What seems to be the problem?
