Samsung welcomes news of the first free-to-air 3D broadcast in Australia

Channel Nine announces broadcast of the 2010 Harvey Norman State of Origin Series will be the first 3D broadcast in Australia; Samsung anticipates high demand for its 3D TV range from footy fans eager to enjoy the ultimate home game experience

Sydney, AUSTRALIA – 28 April 2010 – Samsung Electronics Australia welcomes news that Channel Nine will be the first free-to-air broadcaster to deliver 3D content into homes across Australia. The network will capture and broadcast the 2010 Harvey Norman State of Origin Series matches, starting on Wednesday 26th May, in 3D. As the first, and currently only, manufacturer with a 3D TV range on sale now, Samsung is predicting high demand from sports fans eager to be the first to enjoy the immersive experience 3D delivers. “For anyone passionate about sport, 3D provides the ultimate stadium experience from the comfort and convenience of your own home,” said Mark Leathan, Head of Marketing, Consumer Electronics, Samsung Electronics Australia. “Being first to market, we will also be the first TV through which Australians can enjoy this 3D broadcast experience; a landmark occasion in Australian broadcasting history. More importantly, as consumers begin investing in 3D technology, this announcement should reassure them that there is significant interest from our local broadcasters in delivering 3D content experiences to the home. Anyone investing in a Samsung 3D TV today can be confident that there will be numerous ways of enjoying 3D content going forward; from movies on 3D Blu-ray, to 3D gaming on consoles such as Xbox and now 3D broadcast.” The federal government has granted Nine a trial 3D broadcast licence for the three matches; the first and third set to be played at ANZ Stadium at Homebush Bay on May 26 and July 7, while the second game will take place in Brisbane on June 16. With Samsung’s LED 3D TV range now in store, there’s never been a better time for sports fans to invest in a new TV. Not only will there be the Origin 3D broadcasts, but with the 2010 FIFA World Cup kicking off in June, owners of Samsung’s 3D TVs will be able to convert the 2D broadcast footage into 3D, at the touch of a button. Starting at $2899 for a Samsung LED 3D TV, footy fans are encouraged to get in early to ensure they have their TV ready for the State of Origin kick off on Wednesday 26th May.
