HP Industry Standard Servers Lead 20 Years of x86 Innovation

For two decades, HP ProLiant servers have been at the heart of technical and business innovation as organisations have moved to a networked world.

SYDNEY, Australia, March 12, 2010 – For two decades, HP ProLiant servers have been at the heart of technical and business innovation as organisations have moved to a networked world. In 1989, organisations were increasingly looking at the potential of the network to help business. Sharing information, applications and systems could have great potential to improve business decisions, reduce costs and create better ways to serve customers. Seeing this need, the former Compaq Computer Corporation released the SystemPro server. The SystemPro began a trend of innovation with multi- processor architecture, hardware RAID and space for expansion. Business had the performance, reliability and expandability they needed for client server computing. Since 1989, HP’s server portfolio has met the needs of customers requiring high performance, rapid deployment, virtual management and continuous uptime. Today, companies of all sizes and across multiple industries are looking for technology that can help them manage the challenges of data centre power and cooling, space, as well as lower the associated costs. The HP ProLiant portfolio continues to meet organisations’ requirements with the world’s most energy efficient x86 server family, which includes rack, tower, blade and “skinless” scale-out servers. HP has held the number one position in the Asia/Pacific (inc. Japan) x86 Server market for 24 consecutive quarters from Q1 2004 to Q4 2009.1 Globally, HP ProLiant systems are the top-selling servers in the world – in fact every third server sold is an HP server.2 “Our customers demand innovative, reliable server technologies that can maximise the performance, space and energy efficiency of their data centres,” said Paul Robson, Director, Enterprise Storage, Servers and Networking, HP South Pacific. “First to market with a whole host of server technologies from x86 on industry-standards to blades, no other vendor can match HP’s 20 years of innovation and experience. We continue to work closely with our customers and partners to deliver the technology innovations that define the next twenty years and beyond.”

Asia Pacific customers run with confidence on HP ProLiant Organisations in Asia Pacific recognise that HP ProLiant servers are capable of helping them to drive innovation and create new business opportunities, while achieving maximum performance and value. Since 1992, Crystal Group has deployed HP ProLiant servers for its operations in Hong Kong, China and locations outside of Asia Pacific. The servers have enabled one of Asia’s largest garment manufacturers to run its SAP Application, Factory Production System and new site infrastructure, which includes applications such as email, file and print, and System Management Server. “Crystal Group has relied on HP ProLiant for more than a decade to provide us with dependable hardware that is virtualisation optimised, energy efficient and easy to manage,” said Karl Ting, General Manager, Information Services, Crystal Group. “From the deployment of our first SystemPro to the current G6, we have counted on HP to help us reduce energy expenditure and control costs by providing the best return on our technology investment.” Taiwan Mobile Co. has always strived to provide world-class telecom services in network infrastructure, product offering, technology development, and customer services. With the rapid advancement of telecommunications technology, Taiwan Mobile has depended on the reliability and value of HP ProLiant servers for the past seven years to increase business efficiency. Currently running on HP ProLiant DL380 G6 and BL460 G6 servers, this leading telecommunications service provider in Taiwan has benefited from cost and energy savings thanks to the virtualisation capabilities of the G6 platform. Religare, a diversified financial services group based in India, relies on HP blade technology to support its business growth. With an expanding portfolio and a global reach, Religare needs its technology infrastructure to scale to meet the growing demands of the business. Religare runs its mission critical applications and database on HP ProLiant BL460c servers housed within HP BladeSystem c7000 enclosures. The servers have consolidated Religare’s infrastructure, improved efficiency and provided scalability to support the company’s business growth. “With our expanding portfolio and customer base, it is a business imperative to be able to scale our technology infrastructure to meet growing demands,” said G. Nagaraj, Director & Chief Technology Officer, Religare Enterprises Limited. “All of Religare's mission critical applications and database now reside on HP Blade servers providing for our future growth. These servers are scalable, reliable and more manageable.” The Korea Ocean Research and Development Institute (KORDI) launched the world’s first geostationary orbit satellite for ocean observation. To enable real-time observation of the sea around the Korean Peninsula, KORDI has installed HP ProLiant DL380 and DL580 servers to establish a satellite data processing and management system. The servers have enabled real-time processing and management of high capacity satellite data, increased data processing speed and capacity. From its studios in Sydney and Los Angeles, leading animation studio, Animal Logic, is best known for its contributions to films including: The Matrix, Babe, Moulin Rouge, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and 300. To maximise its data centre performance while minimising the power and space footprint and operating costs, Animal Logic turned to HP ProLiant BL2x220c servers. Consequently, the firm quadrupled its compute power within the same data centre footprint. According to Alex Timbs, head of information technology, Animal Logic, “With the HP BladeSystem, the same amount of compute power we used at the peak of Happy Feet can now fit into a quarter of the space. That gives us the flexibility to expand to four times the number of servers we have now without having to increase our data centre footprint.” 1 IDC Asia/Pacific Enterprise Server Tracker, 4Q 2009, Feb 2010 2 IDC Worldwide Quarterly Server Tracker 4Q 2009, Feb 2010 About HP HP creates new possibilities for technology to have a meaningful impact on people, businesses, governments and society.
