The HG20 is an excellent high-def HDD camcorder that easily matches anything else on the market. Although the build quality could be better, its video performance more than makes up for any shortcomings. Highly recommended.

The current editing limitations are significant, but once the software catches up, the Panasonic HDC-SD1 will be an excellent camcorder.

The HDR-SR12E may be a little more expensive than most of its rivals, but it represents a bargain nonetheless. It ticks all the major boxes that make a great camcorder; including superb image quality and ease-of-use.

For those with a little extra money, or serious professionals looking to take the leap into high definition video, the HDR-FX1E is a great option.

The HDR-CX12 is a brilliant high-def handycam that is almost impossible to find fault with. It improves on its CX7K predecessor in nearly every area and is easily a match for Sony's high-end HDR-SR12 model. If you don't mind the lack of an inbuilt hard drive, it won't disappoint.

A basic DVD camcorder that offers few advantages over its Mini DV brethren

The DCR-DVD755 is a decent enough camcorder, although at this price point the level of image noise is disappointing.

If you already own the HF10, there is next to no reason to make the switch to the HF11. Everyone else, on the other hand, would do well to seek this camcorder out.
