Linksys attempts to make your life easy with the WRT310N, and it succeeds by making it a cinch to install, and by supplying the intuitive and useful network utility LELA. This router does cost more than its 10/100 stablemate, but if you need the extra speed that Gigabit ports offer, then it's a good investment.

It's got good range and can transfer files quickly, but it's not a major step up from existing 802.11g routers. It's not worth upgrading to this router if you're already using a decent 802.11g router, but if you're in the market for a new router anyway, this one is good value.

The TEW-631BRP offers good performance at close ranges but is slow at longer distances. It'll be given a run for its money by a good Mimo 54G kit. Nevertheless, this product has some interesting features and remains a decent buy - for now.

For users just wanting to connect to the Internet, the WAG325N may be overkill for the price, but if you also want to integrate with your wireless network -- especially if streaming media is a requirement -- then this router/modem could be worth a closer look.

The Billion BIPAC 7404VGPM lacks MIMO antenna technology and USB ports but the Internet speed, wireless capabilities and its VoIP functionality during our tests were solid.

Having the ability to run 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks simultaneously is an advantage, but this unit's speed wasn't as good as we hoped and it's also limited to running 2.4GHz-based 802.11n adapters at 54Mbps.

Netgear’s DG834N provides good value in terms of router and modem capability and security features. We were very impressed with its modem sync speeds, but no Gigabit Ethernet and poor throughput speeds make this a poor router for heavy data transfer and media streaming needs.

$299.00

Good features and wireless streaming speed were countered by random drop-outs, which caused us many headaches.

All up, we didn't have to fiddle with this router's settings at all, apart from entering our Internet and wireless connectivity details. It distributed our Internet connection and streamed multimedia files to various wireless clients without any problems, and its speeds were admirable during our tests. For users who need a new wireless router for the home, or even for a small office, this one is worth considering.
