LG's Flatron W1942T is a fairly basic monitor that performed well in our tests. It doesn't offer the best image around, but users after a simple widescreen display for basic computer use and the occasional film or game will find this model satisfying.

The Samsung 305T offers excellent, professional build quality and comes with four USB ports and an ergonomic height-adjustable stand. With an RRP of $2299.95 this is certainly a pricey peripheral, but if you search around you can find it on sale for less than $2000, which then compares favourably with 30in competitors from Dell and Apple. Hazro's model costs a lot less, but comes without the height adjustable stand or USB ports.

While Dell's stylish 22in Crystal monitor will appeal to fashion-conscious users and those after a display with multimedia capabilities, the extremely reflective glass coating makes it irritating to use under normal lighting conditions.

Dell's UltraSharp 2408WFP is one of the best monitors on the market offering stunning image quality at a fairly good price.

While the LG Flatron W2242T isn't the best monitor around, it is a good all-purpose office display that will be suitable for a variety of needs.

An impressive 22in widescreen panel from HP, the L2245w offers great image quality and combines it with a flexible stand as well as the option to rotate to portrait mode.

LG's Flatron W2252TQ is a solid mid-range 22in monitor that features a few fun features and image quality that is suited to desktop users and gamers alike.

Vibrant colours and immaculate details are displayed by this Eizo FlexScan monitor, which make it a joy to use. However, you will have to fork out a fair bit of cash to procure it.

This AOC showed us good contrast and brightness during our tests, but its greyscale did suffer from noticeable pink colouring and noise. Nevertheless, it was comfortable to view pictures and movies on this screen, and the webcam is a neat addition.

While it's expensive, it's also the perfect monitor for colour-critical applications. Not only that, but it scales lower-than-native resolutions beautifully on its vast 30in of space, and it also has a nifty picture-by-picture feature, which basically makes it two monitors in one.

The monitor's overall build quality is excellent, and the finish is elegant. However, given its price tag the HP L1906 is not particularly a value buy.

There are other -- and larger -- HD-level monitors available for the money. However, if you're looking for a really high-quality 22in display, the Lenovo L220x Wide will give you something great to look at all of the time
