The AOC 212VA isn't at the top of the monitor pack, but considering the price tag, this 22in display is good value for money for those looking to make the leap into the widescreen PC display market.

The ASUS VW222 would suit both office and gaming use, but has issues regarding its appeal to each demographic. For gamers, the integrated speakers could be a turn off while the limited calibration options could be problematic for office users that require a monitor with accurate and adjustable colour.

Unfortunately, the lack of connectivity and calibration options and a few image quality issues mean it is more suited to those who want the biggest panel they can find, rather than image quality purists.

A strong all purpose display panel, NEC's MultiSync LCD2490WUXi is a good choice for those after a big display for a variety of tasks.

All things considered, this monitor is very easy on the eyes. Its colour reproduction was excellent, it didn't suffer from any motion problems and it was viewable even from the most obtuse angles. It's well worth considering, if you can afford it, and not only can it be used as a computer monitor, it can also be used to plug in gaming consoles, a digital TV set-top box, or even a VCR.

For everyday tasks, this Flatron is well-suited. It doesn't produce a perfect image, but it does a serviceable job of displaying images and movies.

With its sleek, one-button design and iPod-like white finish, the Samsung SyncMaster 970P has style to spare - if you can spare the cash to buy it.

Despite a couple of little problems with the greyscale and black level, this screen is worth considering, especially for an office environment.

If its black level wasn't set so low, we would give this monitor a higher rating as its not a bad monitor overall. But, the lack of definition in dark areas was enough to put us off.
