It's not a perfect monitor; viewing from the sides and from the top causes some colour-shift and it did look a little dull in our photo tests, but the 245B is a decent high-definition monitor for productivity and multimedia use. Because it's a high-definition monitor, we would have liked the inclusion of video-in ports.

While it doesn't do anything outstanding, the Acer X193W is an affordable and competent 19in monitor that performs quite well whether you're watching films, playing games or just doing general Web browsing and desktop publishing.

The Samsung SyncMaster 206BW is a very good widescreen desktop display. It is competitively priced and, once calibrated, performed very well in our text and colour tests. But, of course, you get what you pay for. If you can live with a limited viewing angle and a relatively inflexible design, and without a lot of extra features, the Samsung SyncMaster 206BW could be a fine choice if you're looking for a medium-sized display on a small budget.

The HP w2007 is a 20in display that's a good all-around widescreen monitor with interesting features such as built-in speakers and a shiny, high-gloss screen. Its limited viewing angle and lack of colour controls might not please picky photographers and discerning designers, but it would be a fine fit for surfing the Web or working on Microsoft Office documents.

It's undoubtedly no stunner on hardware, but the HP L1908w's specifications are palatable given the price tag. And this screen is all about that price.

Better-looking than many monitors, the HP w1907 would fare decently at a business, a home office, or at home for personal use, while adding some style to the desktop.

While Dell's stylish 22in Crystal monitor will appeal to fashion-conscious users and those after a display with multimedia capabilities, the extremely reflective glass coating makes it irritating to use under normal lighting conditions.

The Samsung 305T offers excellent, professional build quality and comes with four USB ports and an ergonomic height-adjustable stand. With an RRP of $2299.95 this is certainly a pricey peripheral, but if you search around you can find it on sale for less than $2000, which then compares favourably with 30in competitors from Dell and Apple. Hazro's model costs a lot less, but comes without the height adjustable stand or USB ports.

LG's Flatron W1942T is a fairly basic monitor that performed well in our tests. It doesn't offer the best image around, but users after a simple widescreen display for basic computer use and the occasional film or game will find this model satisfying.

The ViewSonic VP2250wb has many good points, not least its top-quality colour palette. However, at this price, we expect more the viewing angle issues in particular are not impressive. It's fine if you work alone, but for bustling offices the viewing angles may prove a bar to you showing off your work in all the finery that this screen really ought to be able to deliver.

Offering the ability to connect to your PC directly via USB, ASUS' VW223b is a very cool product but its lack of DVI and unsuitability for entertainment tasks mean it won't be everyone's cup of tea.

HP's w2448hc is a fairly good but not outstanding 24in panel. While its HDMI connectivity and built-in webcam are both boons, the glossy finish is extremely distracting and there are some colour issues that may annoy image quality purists.
