LG's Flatron W1942T is a fairly basic monitor that performed well in our tests. It doesn't offer the best image around, but users after a simple widescreen display for basic computer use and the occasional film or game will find this model satisfying.

AOC's 2219P2 would have been a pretty middle-of-the-road monitor, but the horrible ghosting issues we encountered coupled with the backlight bleeding mean this is probably a display to steer clear of.

Philip's 190SW is a solid entry-level display

In a nutshell, Dell's E228WFP is a no-frills monitor that offers solid performance.

This is a great monitor for all-round pursuits. It offers a very vibrant picture and good colour performance and despite its 16ms response time, was almost as good as some of the 12ms panels.

Philips' 200BW is suited for well-lit environments where adjustability is important. A largely unimpressive image and no input switching make this monitor somewhat undesirable for the majority of the market.

Offering the ability to connect to your PC directly via USB, ASUS' VW223b is a very cool product but its lack of DVI and unsuitability for entertainment tasks mean it won't be everyone's cup of tea.
