Palringo offers a comprehensive instant messaging solution for the iPhone with few drawbacks. Due to the device's soft keyboard, it is unlikely to gain the same popularity as its desktop equivalents, but it is a viable choice for those who need instant messaging on their handset.

Google Mobile App is a simple search tool that relies on Safari for most of its work. If you regularly use Google when you are out and about, then this may be worth a look, but for most iPhone users, simply searching Google via Safari will suffice.

As long as you don’t expect a full-blown replacement for the Web version, Facebook is an excellent iPhone application that offers a simple user interface. There are some features missing and it suffers some instability, however.
