Garmin has provided a competitive handheld GPS device with the Oregon 300. It provides a full touch-screen experience in combination with a rugged casing and vital navigation tools. We would have preferred more detailed maps, but Garmin has provided room for expandability — making this an excellent choice.

If you are after a compact and simple GPS system, then the nuvi 300 should fit the bill. Overall, a solid navigational experience on the whole is enough to cover for some small deficiencies.

The 330 Auto Navigation is Nokia's first stand-alone GPS. The result is a solid, but not outstanding unit that is let down by an impractical address search method.

The LN800 offers a larger screen and a light sensor, but we don't think its worth the extra asking price over the LN800. Still, it's a solid unit with a fair list of included features.

Magellan’s Maestro 4250 provides an alternative to the more expensive, high-end TomTom and Garmin devices. Although it doesn’t provide the same level of polish as some of the better known brands, its features are functional and it provides everyday users with a viable GPS option.

The C720t is very similar to the successful C520, so it remains a great unit with plenty of features. Unfortunately, the geotagging feature is poorly implemented, so we're not convinced this is worth the extra cost over its little brother, though the included TMC cradle kit is ideal if you are planning to use the traffic feature.

A well priced, middle of the range unit that adds NavPix technology to ensure a solid and reliable navigational experience.

A solid option that is fairly well priced considering the features offered. The iCN530 is a good choice, but keep in mind that some of the newer Navman models offer refreshing interface changes and newer map views.

The S80 is the third product in Navman's S-Series range and introduces text-to-speech technology to an otherwise largely similar unit to the S50.

The compact size of this unit doesn't compensate for its poor GPS performance. Not recommended.
