The Compaq Presario M2000 is a well-rounded home laptop for users who don't care about sleek looks.

HP's Pavilion tx1001 is not a powerful performer, but for a small premium you get the benefit of touch-screen functionality with your notebook. It still offers all the perks of the Pavilion range, but brings a new physical element to computing.

Although there are flaws to be dealt with, the Pavilion dv2308TX still offers some nice features, and at this price we have little reason to complain.

Although the HP Compaq 6710b is not at the top of the game, it's a good value for money option. The included software could have been a little more comprehensive, but this simple notebook still does what it needs to do reasonably well.

If you plan to use what HP has put into this machine then it's a good value choice. However, if you're after a power notebook, or don't plan to utilise all the added features then there are other paths you'll want to take.

A solid notebook, the HP Compaq Presario B1200 isn't a powerhouse machine, but it does come with an array of strong features and a smooth design that makes it a reasonable choice.

There's not a whole lot more to the HP Pavilion Special Edition, but the small perks and unique design easily match, if not outweigh the slight price hike.

A formidable notebook choice with a classy design. Although it's aimed at the casual user in both price and performance, we still feel that an extra $100 can get you a more powerful Intel-based machine.

There's plenty of style to boast of here. The Verve, aptly named for its design, will turn heads, and it's a good performer too, if not at the top of the class.

The Pavilion dv6000 is a bit like a supermodel; it's so gorgeous that you're willing to overlook any flaws just to get your hands on it. Thankfully, its catwalk stumbles are kept to a minimum -- an impressive piece of hardware.

This system is intended to be a value system when compared to HP's Pavilion range, offering fewer features and slower performance. Unfortunately it isn't priced accordingly.

Admittedly there's little to this Pavilion that we haven't seen from the range before, but as the saying goes, if it ain't broke don't fix it. The Blu-ray player is clearly a great bonus, as is the HDMI output. If you're after a notebook to handle your entertainment, this is a good option.
