We've never really seen the need for screen protectors as they get just as blurry and fingerprint splattered as an unprotected screen and so require just as much wiping. And because the iPhone's screen is made of glass (rather like Beckham's manager Ruud Gullit's knees) there is little chance of scratching it unless you clumsily run your diamond ring across it (careful, Posh!). However, the Echo's secondary function as a mirror does give it a handy twist if you require a mirror with you at all times. And even Becks can afford the $9.95 cost.

The Z320i is a handset as basic as they come. Although it performs reasonably well and features a compact, stylish design, the lack of Bluetooth connectivity lets it down immensely.

The MOTORAZR2 V8 is a solid, but not outstanding handset. Its build quality and design are excellent though, ensuring it should be a head turner.

The S730's QWERTY keypad and controls combined with an excellent design make this a welcome addition to the smartphone market.

The Touch Cruise may not be the best looking smartphone on the market, but it has an excellent features list, headed by built-in GPS, Wi-Fi and HTC's TouchFLO interface.

Jabra's BT5020 bundle is a handy option for those who spend a lot of time out of the office on their mobile. The lack of an included handset lifter is a downside though.

The p3600i is a feature-packed device and the scroll wheel makes navigating through it an effortless job.

The MD-7W is a decent option if you can't live without your music, and the included 3.5mm audio cable means you can connect a variety of both wireless and wired devices.

The wow factor of the MOTOROKR E8's morphing keypad alone is enough to turn heads. Unfortunately, the implementation of these controls isn't a total success and the handset also lacks in a number of other areas. Keep in mind though that the unit reviewed here is a pre-release prototype and Motorola has confirmed that many of these issues will be corrected in the final release.

The F852 is a solid but far from outstanding option. Its appeal lies in the fact that it can access the full range of Next G services and content on a relatively inexpensive plan.

The Palm Treo 500 remains a solid handset, but the tailored interface of its Vodafone exclusive brother would have been a nice inclusion

A stylish, classy exterior with excellent build quality, just 10mm thin and boasting an superior keypad and controls despite its compact size. Add HSDPA support and an excellent user interface to the mix and the W890i is almost perfect.
