Sony's Bravia KDL46XBR is a brilliant 1080p TV. It performed above par across all our tests and while it wasn't perfect, the issues we did spot did not detract. If you're after a full high definition screen that excels in all areas this is a great choice.

If you run a media centre, you may need to look elsewhere, but if high definition videos and gaming appeal to you, the full 1080p 43W3001 is a great value for money display.

Samsung's LA40N81BD offers a good choice for users looking to take the leap into high-definition video. While there were some minor aliasing and noise issues during gaming tests, high-definition playback was impressive on the whole, and standard definition was rendered crisply considering the amount of scaling required.

The Bravia KDL46D3100 showed excellent performance across all modes and resolutions including standard definition and will no doubt please most users. The only downfall is a oversaturation of red in the image but this may not by an important factor for the majority of consumers.

The Sharp LC37PD5X is a good quality television, but dithering issues when playing HD games prevents it from being considered excellent.

The Toshiba REGZA 42C3000 performed brilliantly in high definition but scored poorly in standard definition. The fact that the panel can display 1080p signals is a huge bonus, but the fact that a regular DVD will look poor, is a detractor. Before purchasing this unit, we suggest you decide what you need it to do and choose accordingly.

The LG 32LB9D is an exceptional LCD television which performed brilliantly across all resolutions.

The Sanyo LCD-47XR2 sits at the low end of the market when it comes to price, but has the image quality and overall performance that makes it a viable budget alternative to some of the big boys.

The LG 42LB9DF is a good mid-range 1080p television which falls short of justifying its high-end price tag.

The LG 47LB2DE is a 1080p TV that performs well in 1080-line resolutions, but struggles with all others. The image quality issues in lower resolutions should be taken into consideration if you're considering purchasing this model.

The Toshiba REGZA 37WL68A is a well-priced mid-range LCD television that performs well when viewing HD movies but has shortcomings in other areas.

The Toshiba REGZA 47WL68A is a good all-round 1080p unit. It's not perfect and doesn't quite sit in the same league as the high-end units on the market, but at this price point, it represents excellent value for money.
