The LG 50PY3DF's many strengths and features, including good speakers and a reasonable price, may help it find it a place on the TV stands of some homes despite its middle-of-the-road performance.

The Sharp LC37PD5X is a good quality television, but dithering issues when playing HD games prevents it from being considered excellent.

A strong contender for a place in your kitchen or bedroom, or just as a backup TV, the Sony KDL20S4000 is a 20in 720p panel that offers good image quality for both HD and SD playback. It isn't perfect, but considering the size, price tag and target market it does a solid job.

A solid 720p unit from Sharp, the 37in LC37D53X offers good image quality at a decent price point. It does have some minor issues, but for regular DVD and some HD watching in a small- or medium-sized room it is a nice choice.

LG's 42LG60FD is a fairly good full HD panel. It's a slim panel with solid image quality but it is missing a few bits and pieces and the design may not suit everyone.

The Sanyo LCD-47XR2 sits at the low end of the market when it comes to price, but has the image quality and overall performance that makes it a viable budget alternative to some of the big boys.

The Toshiba REGZA 47WL68A is a good all-round 1080p unit. It's not perfect and doesn't quite sit in the same league as the high-end units on the market, but at this price point, it represents excellent value for money.

It stumbles on standard definition content and doesn't support 100Hz picture technology, but Sony's 52 inch W series LCD is hard to fault in high definition picture quality tests.

While the image quality is high and the sound quality is good, the connectivity options on the 42PFL7532D, as well as the required calibration time, aren't user-friendly.

The Hitachi 50PDP9800TA is a mid-range big-screen TV. It was excellent in our high definition tests and produced reasonable results in our standard definition tests.

The Grundig Elegance GLCD4001 is a mid-range TV with entry level features and above-average performance at a reasonable price.

The Grundig Cinemo GLCD4600HD is a mid-range TV that performs well and has a reasonable price tag.
