The Xphone II bundles lots of features into a compact, sleek design. It would suit phone users needing basic organiser capabilities, but those wanting more comprehensive PDA features should stick to the Xda range.

The MIO A701 is a jack of all trades device designed to replace your mobile phone, GPS unit and PDA. Sporting a touch screen but no keypad, the versatile A701 also boasts a 1.3 megapixel camera and both MP3 and video players.

A solid, if not outstanding entry to the smart phone market, the BlackJack is a mixed bag. It has HSDPA, an excellent display and good email functionality, but the inability to edit documents and the lack of Wi-Fi are sour points.

The P3470 is an interesting release, but the lack of both 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity will hinder its appeal, despite the inclusion of a GPS receiver.

The much-hyped Touch Diamond had plenty of potential, but ultimately it is a hugely frustrating phone to use. A great display, stylish design and reasonable browser are let down by a sluggish and slow user interface. Unfortunately, the great eye candy of the Diamond isn’t enough to push it over the line.

HP’s iPAQ 912 Business Messenger certainly boasts plenty of features, but falls slightly short of many offerings from competitors. The lack of included navigational software combined with a small display may turn some users elsewhere.
