The AVN2210p is far from perfect, but it's a nice example of what can be achieved by combining personal navigation and in-car entertainment. It's a very solid unit with a couple of nifty features and the fact that the GPS unit is detachable will be a selling point for many consumers – not to mention its very reasonable asking price.

The RIDER 2nd edition offers several significant improvements over its pioneering predecessor, including a superior headset and bike mount. While a few flaws remain, it has managed to avoid most of the key obstacles that hamper other units.

This is an extremely comprehensive system with some high-end GPS features, most notably the 3D Gyro Sensor, but the AVIC-HD3 offers so much more. If you're purely after a GPS device this is more than you'll need. However, if you're after a fully integrated car system with GPS, the Pioneer AVID-HD3 is worth looking further into.

Magellan's CrossoverGPS unit is a fair effort, but it's lacking in some areas. If you do your fair share of walking and boating though, this is definitely worth a look.

The C320 is very similar to the successful C520, minus a couple of features. It represents great value for money at this price point and is ideal for first time users, or those who just want a GPS unit without extra bells and whistles like Bluetooth and multimedia functions.

The C720t is very similar to the successful C520, so it remains a great unit with plenty of features. Unfortunately, the geotagging feature is poorly implemented, so we're not convinced this is worth the extra cost over its little brother, though the included TMC cradle kit is ideal if you are planning to use the traffic feature.

The GO 720 is another fine unit from TomTom. It features a slim design, great maps and navigational performance, Bluetooth for handsfree calling and some great safety features.

The nuvi 250 is a solid unit and commands a lower price than the 250W, despite possessing the same features.

The nuvi 250W is a solid unit and the widescreen display is certainly a nice touch for an entry-level model, but its missing a few features to warrant its price tag.

The S90i is Navman's cream of the crop, and it is certainly a fine unit. The 2-megapixel camera adds flexibility for using NavPix.

The S80 is the third product in Navman's S-Series range and introduces text-to-speech technology to an otherwise largely similar unit to the S50.

The S50 adds Bluetooth handsfree and NavPix for a reasonable price. Although there is no camera to take NavPix photos, it's still a useful application.
