A large, bulky unit, the MMP-501B offers a great display and plenty of features for its asking price, though there aren't many new additions from the previous model.

The GPSmap 60CSx has all the hallmarks of a decent handheld GPS device. However, it still offers too little at too high a price.

A sleek, slim design combined with the latest in features including the ability to transmit sound via a built-in FM transmitter, the compact nuvi 760 is definitely a winner.

We really like the nuvi 5000's large screen, but the lack of Bluetooth and an internal battery will undoubtedly turn potential users elsewhere. It’s a shame, as the navigational experience is otherwise excellent.

At this price, and with this feature set, the TomTom ONE blows away the competition.

The S90i is Navman's cream of the crop, and it is certainly a fine unit. The 2-megapixel camera adds flexibility for using NavPix.

The GO 720 is another fine unit from TomTom. It features a slim design, great maps and navigational performance, Bluetooth for handsfree calling and some great safety features.

If you currently own a GO 720, then there is no real reason to upgrade, as most of the improvements are software upgrades. If you are looking for a high-end GPS with all of the latest features though, the GO 930 is excellent, if a little overpriced.

A larger screen enhances an already enticing package. The N60i is an excellent GPS, with a great user interface and quality maps.

This is by far and away the best GPS unit on the market. It combines an excellent design with a fantastically easy to use menu system and features a whole range of extra offerings such as Bluetooth hands free, MP3 player and excellent text-to-speech technology. A must have.

There's no denying the convenience of having a combined PDA and GPS unit, but we have seen easier to use GPS units.

A good GPS receiver, but the irritating audio notifications and lack of advanced customisation features mean this isn't the device to take on long drives.
