We like the new look and it's a reasonable performer, but we were disappointed by the speakers and the poor viewing angle on the screen. Ultimately this notebook is pleasant to use, but leaves you wondering what more it could have offered.

If you plan to use what HP has put into this machine then it's a good value choice. However, if you're after a power notebook, or don't plan to utilise all the added features then there are other paths you'll want to take.

The Fujitsu Lifebook T4220 is a powerful and responsive Tablet but the indoor/outdoor screen coating may irritate people who plan to use the device insode more than outside.

For its price there's little worth complaining about. The Dell Media Direct feature is handy and the 2 megapixel camera is a nice upgrade from the standard 1.3 megapixel option.

The Sudio Linc is an extremely simple device, but it does a great job of adding Bluetooth connectivity to your laptop or desktop PC without any hassles.

We're disappointed that no HD-DVD-RW was included, but if there's no media what's the point? The new look is nice and the other enhancements make this notebook a better choice than its predecessors. We'd certainly recommend this model over the previous G30's, even though its performance hasn't really improved.

It's not an entirely practical solution for all types, as for this price you can get a very powerful desktop PC. However, if you're after a system with power and require portability, if not light and easy mobility, then this system has some merit.

We truly wanted to love the Asus U1F (1P010E), but its lack of a built-in optical drive and poor graphics chip dampened our ardour. Nevertheless, it remains a handsome choice for business use and web browsing.

Acer's Aspire 4920G is a good all purpose notebook. It doesn't excel at any one thing, but for users wanting a little gaming, movie watching and general desktop PC activities, crammed into a stylish package, it is a strong contender.

The ThinkPad X61 is well-built and very portable, which makes it suitable for the road warrior. However, it doesn't ship with an optical drive.

The U1010 is about twice the size of a smart-phone, yet it's a fully-fledged Windows Vista-based tablet PC. It's suitable for professional users, or even regular travellers, who want a very mobile device with all the functionality of a typical computer. Unfortunately, it lacks built-in 3G features.

Excellent performance and powerful multimedia capabilities thanks to a Blu-ray drive and HDMI make the FZ18G an excellent desktop replacement.
